Google is testing a new social network

Google is clearly not going to say goodbye to the idea of its own social network. Google+ just recently shut down as a "corporation of goodness" start test Shoelace. This is a new platform for social interaction, which is different from Facebook, VKontakte and others.

Google is testing a new social network

Developers position it as an offline solution. That is, through Shoelace it is proposed to find friends and like-minded people in the real world. It is assumed that the system's mobile application will allow "connecting" people according to common interests, finding new acquaintances for those who have recently moved and want to meet people living nearby.

This is the company's third attempt to win over the hearts and minds of social media users. In 2011, Google launched a similar project, Schemer, but it was shut down three years later. The current attempt is, in fact, a restart of this system. Either they haven’t played enough in Mountain View, or they want to take into account past mistakes.

It is reported that the test version of Shoelace is currently only available in the US for Android and iOS devices. To work, you need a version of at least Android 8 and iOS 11, as well as a Google account. The service has the ability to create a list of events of interest, such as sports, shows, and so on. There is also a calendar and the ability to invite users. The same functionality has been in Facebook, VKontakte and other projects for a long time, so the brainchild of Google will have to work hard to be noticed.
