Google Releases Open Library for Differential Privacy

Google has released the library under an open license differential privacy to the company's GitHub page. The code is distributed under the Apache License 2.0.

Developers will be able to use this library to build a data collection system without collecting information that can identify a person's identity.

β€œWhether you're a city planner, small business owner, or software developer, extracting actionable information can help improve services and get answers to important questions, but without strong privacy protections, you risk losing the trust of your citizens, customers, and users. Differential-private data analysis is a principled approach that allows organizations to extract useful data while ensuring that the results do not override any individual's personal data,” writes Miguel Guevara, product manager in the company's privacy and data protection division.

The company also says the library includes an additional testing library (to get differential privacy right), as well as a PostgreSQL extension and a number of recipes to help developers get started.
