“A lot more synths”: Grinding Gear Games talked about creating music for Path of Exile 2

From the moment announcement Path of Exile 2 saw almost no news about the game at Exile Con 2019. Developers from Grinding Gear Games only mentioned, which may postpone the beta testing of the project scheduled for 2020 due to the coronavirus. However, they have now broken their silence and released a video dedicated to creating the soundtrack for the upcoming sequel.

In the video, the music director and composer of Grinding Gear Games, Kamil Orman-Janovski, spoke about which melodies will prevail in Path of Exile 2. The author promised that players will hear dark and bold motives in the project. Together with the team, he plans to combine folk / ethnic melodies, industrial and "tribal" sounds in the soundtrack. The composer wants to reduce the proportion of the symphony orchestra in the musical accompaniment and replace it with synthesizers.

The video shows different locations from the world of Path of Exile 2, and depending on the place where the user is located, this or that melody sounds. Orman-Yanovsky said that he likes the composition playing when visiting the Crypt. In general, he tries to select motives that fit the mood of the project and the specific moment. For example, in boss fights, the soundtrack will emphasize the reigning tension.


Some of the tunes from Path of Exile 2 can be heard in the latest video. In it, Grinding Gear Games showed gameplay footage from the upcoming sequel: characters explore locations, use different skills, fight monsters and bosses.

The release date of Path of Exile 2 is still unknown, as well as the platforms on which the game will appear.
