The project was presented only with a brief teaser, where the main character puts on a helmet and declares: “I’m ready.”
Apparently, users will hear more details at E3 2019. The original SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom was released in 2003. It is an arcade platformer made in 3D. The main characters overcome various obstacles on the way to the goal, and each of them has its own characteristics.
SpongeBob can become a ball and roll to break a barrier or other object blocking the way. Sandy can fly with his spinning lasso, while Patrick is strong and can throw boxes. The plot tells how the protagonists joined forces to fight the evil Plankton.
The gameplay of the re-release was not shown to the public; most likely, the authors from Purple Lamp Studios will retain the original style and focus on fun and variety of tasks. SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated will be released on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, the exact date has not yet been announced.
