Gwent announced for mobile devices: release on iOS - in the fall, on Android - later

CD Projekt RED hosted a FY 2018 performance conference today. Among other things, the Polish company announced the preparation of mobile versions of Gwent: The Witcher Card Game (“Gwent: The Witcher. “We spent a lot of time and effort preparing to port Gwent to smartphones,” said development director Jason Slama. — It was necessary not only to preserve the excellent graphics, but also to introduce support for mobile devices into many of our technologies, including the GOG Galaxy client, which is based on the Gwent multiplayer. I think that in the development of these versions we use all the best graphics and gameplay developments of our studio.

They promised to tell more about mobile versions later. At the meeting, it was announced that in the last quarter of 2018, Gwent brought in more profits than Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales (“Thornfeud: The Witcher Stories”), which was released on October 23 on GOG, on November 10 on Steam, and on December 4 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The failure is associated not with temporary exclusivity, as many people think, but with a lack of resources - the main forces of the team were thrown into the development of Gwent, and the independent story campaign did not have enough budget. Previously, the creators have already admitted that they were disappointed with the sales of Thronebreaker. However, the game received very positive reviews from critics (rating on Metacritic - 79-85/100 points), and the authors are very proud of this.

In addition, the developers noted that they are pleased with the pre-orders of the first major expansion, The Crimson Curse (“Scarlet Curse”), which will be released tomorrow, March 28th. The team plans to release several major addons for Gwent every year, as well as add new content and features to it every month. One of the attendees asked the executives about the possibility of moving Gwent to a subscription distribution model. Studio president Adam Kiciński replied that the company is considering various options for monetization, including this, but has not yet made a final decision.
