Harmony OS will be the fifth largest operating system in 2020

This year, the Chinese company Huawei launched its own operating system, Harmony OS, which could become a replacement for Android if the manufacturer can no longer use the Google software platform in its devices. It is noteworthy that Harmony OS can be used not only in smartphones and tablet computers, but also in other types of devices.

Now, online sources are reporting that Harmony OS's global market share will reach 2% next year, making the software platform the world's fifth largest and overtaking Linux. The report also states that Harmony OS will have a 5% market share in China by the end of next year.

Recall that currently the most common operating system in the world is Android, whose share is 39%. The second position belongs to Windows, which is installed on 35% of devices, and the iOS software platform closes the top three with a market share of 13,87%. Following the leaders are macOS and Linux, occupying 5,92% and 0,77% of the market, respectively.

As for Harmony OS, we should expect it to appear on more devices in the future. This year, Honor Vision TV and Huawei Smart TVs running Harmony OS were introduced. However, company representatives say that smartphones with Harmony OS will not be released yet. Most likely, Huawei will launch the first smartphones based on its own operating system in the home market, where the role of Google applications and services is not as great as in other countries.
