“As part of our optimization work, we have added Vulkan support to the game,” the studio said. “We were able to do this not only for Beyond [the recently announced major update], but also for the current version of the game. We wanted to release this update as soon as possible."

For now, Vulkan support is only available to users of the No Man's Sky experimental build. They - especially those with AMD graphics cards - should already notice a performance boost. “It also helps us expand our capabilities as we continue to make significant changes to the engine. This is just one part of a large body of work, the technical improvements of which will be seen by players on all platforms,” added Hello Games.

In addition to replacing OpenGL with Vulkan, the space action has changed as follows:

    • revised HDR support, updated output calibration;
    • in the settings there was a choice of adaptive and triple buffering V-Sync;
    • players with more than one graphics accelerator can now choose which one to use;
    • changing the following settings no longer requires a restart:
      • windowed mode;
      • permission;
      • vsync;
      • shadow detailing;
      • reflection quality;
    • "Load Shaders" loading step has been removed;
    • Crash data is collected through Steam to help track and fix issues.

This summer, Hello Games will release a major Beyond update with expansion of multiplayer functions и support for virtual reality headsets. No Man's Sky is available on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
