HiSilicon, a chip design and manufacturing company wholly owned by Huawei Technologies, announced on Friday that it has long been poised for an "extreme scenario" where a Chinese manufacturer could be banned from buying US chips and technology. In this regard, the company noted that it is able to ensure a stable supply of most of the products needed for Huawei's operations.
HiSilicon President He Tingbo made the announcement in a letter to employees on May 17, shortly after the United States officially banned Huawei from buying American technology without special permission, Reuters reported.
HiSilicon's president emphasized that the company is able to provide "strategic security" for most of the Chinese manufacturer's products, adding that Huawei has set a goal of being technologically self-sufficient.
