Horizon Zero Dawn on PC supports tons of AMD technologies and lacks Denuvo protection

Major exclusive on the PS4 platform, Horizon Zero Dawn, made its way to PC yesterday, with the Guerrilla Games and Virtuos teams actively working with AMD to bring a number of cutting-edge technologies to the game. Also, unlike Death Stranding on the same Decima engine from Guerrilla Games, it does not use Denuvo, but is limited to Steam protection.

According to AMD, Horizon Zero Dawn supports the following technologies:

  • AMD Radeon FreeSync Premium Pro - Advanced frame sync technology coupled with HDR for smoother gaming and richer visuals.
  • AMD FidelityFX (Single Pass Downsampler) is an RDNA optimized single pass downsampler that can generate up to 12 MIPmap levels in a single compute shader pass. This prevents the graphics pipeline from stalling when moving the buffer to a lower resolution or generating MIPmap chains. Accelerates the imposition of textures and post-processing effects.
  • AMD TressFX - The latest version of the realistic hair physics engine delivers photorealistic hair rendering effects on Radeon graphics cards.
  • Asynchronous computing - will allow video cards to perform graphics and computing workload at the same time. This provides an efficient allocation of resources and allows you to achieve an increase in frame rate.

Radeon owners who want to fully enjoy the game are encouraged to install the recently introduced first August driver Radeon Software Adrenaline 2020 Edition 20.8.1.

In theory, NVIDIA GPUs should also support TressFX and asynchronous computing. However, there is no option to enable or disable TressFX in the game. Moreover, AMD implies that only Radeon GPUs support them. The team specifically mentions their GPUs and not all graphics cards (as is the case with AMD Radeon FreeSync Premium Pro).

Since the game has a lot of AMD features, it's safe to assume that Virtuos won't add support for DLSS 2.0. After all, unlike Death Stranding, this port to PC is backed by the AMD team. Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition (Includes The Frozen Wilds DLC) Now sold on Steam for 2800 β‚½ and offers full Russian localization.
