HP held a presentation of its new gaming devices. The main novelty of the American manufacturer was the productive gaming laptop Omen X 2S, which received not only the most productive hardware, but also a number of rather unusual features.
The key feature of the new Omen X 2S is an additional display located above the keyboard. As planned by the developers, this screen can perform several functions useful for the players at once. For example, using the Omen Command Center UI, you can display information about the state of the system during games on an additional screen: temperature and frequencies of the central and graphic processors, FPS, and other useful data.
However, as planned by HP, in the first place the display will be useful for displaying various messages right during the gameplay. This allows you to stay connected, while not being distracted from the game. Also, an additional display can be useful for streamers, because it can be used as a full-fledged second screen. You can also display entire applications on this display. Finally, HP offers to use the second screen as a virtual touchpad, or extend the functionality of the Edge browser with it.
The Omen X 2S laptop can be powered by a six- or eight-core ninth-generation Intel Core H-series processor (Coffee Lake-H Refresh). The maximum configuration uses the flagship eight-core Core i9-9980HK with an unlocked multiplier and a frequency of up to 5,0 GHz. Note that in configurations with this processor, HP uses overclocked DDR4-3200 RAM with XMP support.
Such a powerful processor is accompanied by the equally powerful flagship GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q graphics card. Recall that this accelerator repeats the characteristics of the desktop GeForce RTX 2080, but operates at a frequency of up to 1230 MHz. But despite such a powerful βstuffingβ, the Omen X 2S laptop is made in a case with a thickness of only 20 mm.
It's all about the advanced cooling system. Firstly, the so-called βliquid metalβ Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut acts as a thermal interface here, which in itself provides an increase in the efficiency of the cooler (up to 28%, according to HP itself). The cooling system itself is built on five heat pipes and uses two "turbine" fans. Moreover, the fans here are powerful, powered by 12 V. In addition, they take in cold air at the bottom of the laptop, and throw it out heated on the sides and back through rather large ventilation holes.
And the main screen of the Omen X 2S laptop completes the picture. It has a diagonal of 15,6 inches, built on a panel with a resolution of 1920 Γ 1080 pixels at a frequency of 144 Hz. Also available is a version with a similar display, but with a frequency of 240 Hz. Finally, there is a version with a resolution of 3840 Γ 2160 pixels and support for HDR 400. In all cases, there is support for NVIDIA G-Sync.
The Omen X 2S gaming laptop will go on sale at the end of this month. The cost of new items will start at $2100.
