HP recently introduced a new VR headset called Reverb. From a number of its own kind, the novelty stands out with very advanced features and a considerable price, and it also offers a new, more convenient design.

The HP Reverb Headset is equipped with a pair of 2,9-inch displays, each with a resolution of 2160 Γ— 2160 pixels, which in total gives 4320 Γ— 2160 pixels, which is more than the usual 4K. The refresh rate of each of the displays is 90 Hz, and the viewing angle is 114 degrees. A picture with a similar resolution and frequency will be transmitted by the DisplayPort 1.3 interface.

For comparison, the well-known virtual reality helmets Oculus Rift and HTC Vive offer 1080 Γ— 1200 pixels for each eye, that is, almost four times less. A more advanced helmet HTC Vive Pro has a resolution of 1440 Γ— 1600 pixels. At the same time, the new HP Reverb is cheaper than its analogue from HTC.

As part of the Windows Mixed Reality initiative, the new HP Reverb Headset is equipped with all the sensors you need and a pair of cameras for positional motion tracking. The system has six degrees of freedom and allows you to track movements without the use of additional devices (Inside-out tracking). The kit includes a pair of wireless motion controllers. There are also detachable headphones.

The HP Reverb Mixed Reality Headset will be available next month for a suggested price of $599. The Pro version with some additional accessories will cost $649. This makes the novelty the most expensive headset among Windows Mixed Reality devices. However, in general, the same HTC Vive Pro is now sold for $799.
