HTC, which introduced the stand-alone Vive Cosmos VR headset last year, today announced three more models in the Vive Cosmos series. Each of them is an addition to the existing Cosmos system, differing only in new interchangeable "front panels".

The new series contains four devices: Vive Cosmos Play, Vive Cosmos, Vive Cosmos XR and Vive Cosmos Elite. All of them have the same body and the same display with a resolution of 2880 Γ— 1700 pixels. The user can buy any of them, or purchase the cheapest model - Cosmos Play, to which you can later purchase another panel for updating.

The Cosmos Play VR headset has four tracking cameras, as opposed to six on the Vive Cosmos. It also doesn't have the built-in headphones found on the Vive Cosmos. Unfortunately, HTC hasn't revealed pricing or a release date for Cosmos Play, promising that more details will be announced "in the coming months."

The HTC Vive Cosmos Elite has added external tracking with the External Tracking Faceplate. The helmet comes with two SteamVR base stations and two Vive controllers. It will support Vive Wireless Adapter and Vive Tracker which are not included.

The headset is priced at $899, although Vive Cosmos and Vive Cosmos Play owners will be able to upgrade their headsets to the Cosmos Elite version with a $199 faceplate, which will be available in Q2020 XNUMX.

The Cosmos Elite helmet itself will go on sale in the first quarter of 2020, with pre-orders starting on the Vive website on February 24th.

Also unveiled was the Cosmos XR, a business-oriented VR headset that uses two high-resolution XR cameras to expand the Cosmos experience beyond VR into augmented reality. The Cosmos XR's field of view is 100 degrees.

The price and release date of the novelty is still unknown. HTC plans to share more information about the device at the GDC and offer a developer kit in the second quarter.
