Although Huawei has repeatedly denied rumors that it will enter the TV market, Chinese news site Tencent News said that the company is currently developing smart displays powered by multimedia chips manufactured by its subsidiary HiSilicon.
HiSilicon produces the Kirin family of processors, which are widely used in Huawei smartphones.
Tencent News, citing sources in Huawei's supplier network, says the company sees great potential in smart displays to make them the second largest source of revenue after smartphones. It can also help it build its own consumer smart product ecosystem.
