Huawei intends to invest 35 million euros in the "open laboratory" OpenLab in Paris over the next five years. This was announced at the VivaTech annual technology conference held this month in the French capital, Huawei Vice Chairman Ken Hu (Ken Hu, pictured below). According to him, this decision demonstrates the company's confidence that France is on its way to becoming an international center of innovation.

France is well positioned to become a world center of innovation in the future. Huawei has been here for 17 years, and we are happy to help realize these aspirations,” said Ken Hu.

This year, Huawei's display at VivaTech took up an exhibition space of 390m2. It showcased the company's cutting-edge solutions in 5G, cloud computing, smart retail and connected cars.

The Paris OpenLab was launched in April 2018. In just one year, 50 partners developed 15 industry solutions for retail, manufacturing and smart cities.

In his keynote speech at the conference, Ken Hu spoke in favor of developing cross-sectoral cooperation as a platform for realizing new opportunities. He emphasized that the only way to support the development and implementation of new technologies is openness and partnership. And the main trends continue to be 5G technologies, cloud computing and artificial intelligence.

As the trade war between the US and China escalated, Huawei was is included US Department of Commerce blacklisted Entity List. Washington is putting pressure on its allies, including EU countries, to also refuse to cooperate with the Chinese manufacturer. In this regard, in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Huawei Vice President Catherine Chen (Catherine Chen) expressed hope that Europe will not follow in the footsteps of the United States.

Chen said that Huawei has been a partner of European telecommunications companies for many years and therefore this situation should not happen here.
