Huawei Starts Selling Linux MateBook Laptops in China

Ever since Huawei was blacklisted by the US Department of Commerce, the future of its products has been questioned by many in the West. If a company is more or less self-sufficient in terms of hardware components, then software, especially for mobile devices, is a different story. There have been reports in the media about the company looking for alternative operating systems for its devices, and it seems that it has opted for Linux for some laptops sold in China.

Unlike mobile devices, where, admittedly, Huawei has several options to choose from, for PCs, the company actually has only one option to move forward. If Huawei is eventually banned from using Windows on computers, it will either have to develop its own OS, which will take a lot of resources and time, or use one of the hundreds of Linux distributions available.

It appears to have opted for the latter, at least for now, with notebook models such as the MateBook X Pro, MateBook 13, and MateBook 14 running Deepin Linux in China.

Deepin Linux is mainly developed by a Chinese company, which raises some suspicions about Huawei. However, like many Linux distributions, it is open source, so users can always check for any suspicious part of the operating system.
