Huawei will not be able to produce smartphones with support for microSD cards

A wave of problems for Huawei caused by Washington's decision bring in her in the "black" list, continues to grow.

Huawei will not be able to produce smartphones with support for microSD cards

One of the company's latest partners to cut ties with it was the SD Association. This means in practice that Huawei is no longer allowed to release products, including smartphones, with SD or microSD memory card slots.

Like most other companies and organizations, the SD Association has not made a public announcement about this. However, the sudden disappearance of Huawei's name from the association's list of member companies speaks louder than any press release.

On the one hand, there has been a trend in the Android ecosystem to abandon memory expansion using microSD cards. On the other hand, it has not yet received support. And microSD slots are still present even in expensive phones that no longer have the even more ancient 3,5mm headphone jack. This development puts mid-range and entry-level Huawei and Honor phones at risk, as they typically ship with relatively less flash storage out of the box.

Perhaps Huawei anticipated this development, learned from the bitter experience of ZTE, and that is why it developed nanoSD (Huawei NM Card) technology. It will definitely have to ramp up production and lower the price of nanoSD cards to meet the coming growth in demand.
