Huawei did not negotiate with Apple regarding the supply of 5G modems

Despite Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei’s statement about the company’s readiness to supply Apple with 5G chips, the two companies did not have negotiations on this matter. This was announced by the current chairman of Huawei, Ken Hu, in response to a request to comment on the statement of the company’s founder.

Huawei did not negotiate with Apple regarding the supply of 5G modems

“We have not had discussions with Apple on this issue,” Huawei rotating chairman Ken Hu said on Tuesday, adding that he looked forward to competing with Apple in the 5G phone market.

According to testimony from an Apple executive given earlier this year during a trial involving the conflict between Qualcomm and the US Federal Trade Commission, the company has already held talks with Samsung, Intel and Taiwan's MediaTek Inc over the supply of 5G modem chips for the 2019 iPhone smartphones.

Intel, the sole supplier of iPhone modem chips, said its 5G chips won't appear in handsets until 2020. This threatens Apple to fall behind its competitors and forces the Cupertino company to look for a new supplier.
