Leading Chinese smartphone developers, according to online sources, intend to introduce devices based on the latest MediaTek Dimensity 720 processor with support for fifth-generation mobile networks (5G).
The named chip was the day before. This 7nm product contains two ARM Cortex-A76 cores with a clock speed of up to 2 GHz, six Cortex-A55 cores with the same maximum frequency, and an ARM Mali G57 MC3 graphics accelerator. Declared support for LPDDR4x-2133MHz RAM and UFS 2.2 flash drives.
Huawei, OPPO and Xiaomi are reportedly among the first smartphones based on the Dimensity 720 platform. This will happen within the next weeks. Devices will be able to operate in 5G networks with autonomous (SA) and non-autonomous (NSA) architectures in the frequency range below 6 GHz.
As for the cost of smartphones based on the Dimensity 720 platform, it is expected to be less than $250. In other words, such devices will be targeted at the mass market.
According to TrendForce forecasts, about 1,24 billion smartphones will be sold worldwide this year. Of these, approximately 235 million units will be models with 5G cellular support.
