The Chinese company Huawei has proposed a new option for placing the front camera in smartphones equipped with a display with narrow bezels.

Now, in order to implement a completely frameless design, the creators of smartphones use several designs of the selfie camera. It can be placed in a cutout or hole in the screen, as well as in a special sliding block in the upper part of the case. Some companies are also considering hiding the front camera directly behind the display.

Huawei offers another solution, the description of which is published on the website of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

We are talking about providing the smartphone with a small convex area at the top of the case. This will result in an arc-shaped frame above the screen, but will allow the display to be rid of a cutout or hole.

The described solution will allow smartphones to be equipped with a multi-component selfie camera, say, with two optical units and a ToF sensor to obtain scene depth data.

As you can see in the illustrations, the Huawei novelty can also get a dual main camera, a rear fingerprint scanner and a 3,5mm headphone jack. There is no information about the timing of the appearance of such a device on the commercial market.
