In a recent interview, Mr. Zhengfei said that for a one-time payment, the buyer will be given access to existing patents and licenses, source code, technical drawings and other documents in the 5G field that Huawei holds. The buyer will be able to change the source code at his own discretion. This means that neither Huawei nor the Chinese government will have even hypothetical control over any telecommunications infrastructure built using equipment produced by the new company. Huawei will also be able to continue developing existing 5G technologies in accordance with its own plans and strategy.

The amount that a potential buyer will have to pay for access to Huawei technologies has not been disclosed. The report states that the Chinese company is ready to consider proposals from Western companies. During the interview, Mr. Zhengfei noted that the money received from this deal will allow Huawei to take “big steps forward.” Huawei's 5G technology portfolio could be worth tens of billions of dollars. Over the past decade, the company has spent at least $2 billion on research and development of 5G technologies.

“5G provides speed. Countries that have speed will move forward quickly. On the contrary, countries that have abandoned speed and advanced communication technologies may experience a slowdown in economic growth,” Ren Zhengfei said during an interview.

Despite the fact that Huawei has managed to achieve considerable success in the markets of some Western countries, the escalation of the US-China trade war is causing great harm to the company. The US government not only prohibits American companies from collaborating with Huawei, but also forces other countries to do the same.

US authorities are currently conducting several investigations into Huawei, which has been accused of stealing intellectual property and spying for Chinese governments. Huawei categorically denies all accusations from the US and other countries, including those that call into question the safety of the Chinese telecommunications company's 5G equipment.
