At an event marking the launch of the Huawei P30 family of smartphones, the Chinese company announced a collaboration with Korean fashion brand Gentle Monster, which specializes in premium sunglasses and optical glasses, to create its first Smart Eyewear.
Luxury glasses brand Gentle Monster are very popular in Asia. Founded in 2011, the company is growing rapidly, thanks in large part to its experimental design. Its showrooms, which were showcased by CEO Hankook Kim for smart glasses, are more like art galleries.
The new Huawei focuses on fashion. Smart Eyewear does not have cameras or screens, making it more like regular sunglasses.
To answer a phone call or access the voice assistant, the wearer of smart glasses must touch their temple. The device has speakers and two microphones. The smart glasses are charged using a case with a 2200 mAh battery with wireless charging support or via a USB-C port. The novelty is protected from dust and moisture according to the IP67 standard.
The price of the device is still unknown. Huawei Smart Eyewear is reportedly coming in several versions in June or July this year.
