Hyundai Accelerates Technology Development for Hydrogen Vehicles

Hyundai Motor is investing in a number of companies to introduce new hydrogen production and storage technologies.

Hyundai is actively developing technologies for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. The only product of the operation of such units is ordinary water.

Hyundai Accelerates Technology Development for Hydrogen Vehicles

In 2013, Hyundai launched the world's first fuel cell electric vehicle with the ix35 Fuel Cell, or Tucson Fuel Cell. The second-generation hydrogen vehicle, NEXO, has a range of more than 600 km.

So, it is reported that as part of the strategy for the development of hydrogen transport, Hyundai will invest in Impact Coatings, H2Pro and GRZ Technologies. Impact Coatings is a supplier of PVD coatings for fuel cells. The Swedish company's ceramic coatings are cost-effective alternatives to precious metals used in fuel cell manufacturing.

In turn, the Israeli startup H2Pro has developed an efficient, affordable and safe E-TAC water splitting technology. It will allow Hyundai to reduce the cost of hydrogen production.

Finally, GRZ Technologies from Switzerland specializes in energy storage in the form of hydrogen. Her system provides safer, lower-pressure, higher-density hydrogen storage.

The solutions offered by these companies are expected to help Hyundai develop its hydrogen infrastructure and popularize fuel cell vehicles.
