IETF standardizes new URI "payto:"

The IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) Committee, which develops the protocols and architecture of the Internet, has published RFC 8905 with a description of the new resource identifier (URI) "payto:", intended for organizing access to payment systems. RFC received the status of "Proposed Standard", after which work will begin on giving RFC the status of a draft standard (Draft Standard), which actually means the complete stabilization of the protocol and taking into account all the comments made.

New URI proposed by the developers of a free electronic payment system GNU thalers and can be used to call programs to make payments, similar to how the "mailto" URI is used to call email clients. In "payto:" it supports specifying in the link the type of payment system, the details of the payee, the amount of transferred funds and notes. For example, "payto://iban/DE75512106001345126199?amount=EUR:200.0&message=hello". The "payto:" URI allows you to refer to account details ("payto://iban/DE75512108001245126199"), bank identifiers ("payto://bic/SOGEDEFFXXX"), bitcoin addresses ("payto://bitcoin/12A1MyfXbW65678ZEqofac5jCQQjwEPBu") and other identifiers.
