NVIDIA Ampere Generation Gaming Graphics Cards Won't Launch Before End of August

There are some hopes for the March GTC 2020 event in terms of possible NVIDIA announcements, but some sources consider them to be in vain. A real revival of the company's activity in this area should be expected only by the end of August.

A German resource is trying to predict the schedule for the announcement of new NVIDIA products Igor's LAB, based on an already drawn up plan for business trips of specialists traditionally involved in the preparation of such events. The March GTC 2020 conference does not prepare anything serious in this regard - most likely, NVIDIA will focus on describing new areas of application for existing products. In addition, the event itself has a traditional bias towards artificial intelligence, robotics and server computing.

There are no important events in the NVIDIA calendar until the very end of summer, according to German colleagues. June Computex 2020, in their opinion, may be limited to a β€œduty” announcement of the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti SUPER type, if the mythical β€œbig Navi” urgently needs an adequate rival. At the end of summer, on the contrary, the concentration of industry events is very high. At the end of July, SIGGRAPH will be held for graphics professionals who might be interested in the new Quadro models. In addition, the Gamescom 2020 gaming exhibition will be held at the end of August, which can become the best platform for the announcement of new NVIDIA gaming video cards.

Other network sources are trying to stir up interest in the Ampere architecture by publishing information of dubious origin. Back in January появились estimated characteristics of GA103 and GA104 GPUs. The other day, the same little-known blogger said that the flagship GA100 graphics processor will receive a crystal area of at least 826 mm2. For a 7nm product, it will come out quite large, so this information only further confuses the public. NVIDIA's love for large monolithic chips is hard to dispute, but a 7nm chip of this size would be incredibly expensive to manufacture. This information should be treated with a great deal of skepticism.
