Google's AI can change photos to match the style of famous artists in the Arts & Culture app

Many famous artists have their own particular style of writing that others imitate or are inspired by. Google decided to help users who want to change their photos in the style of various artists by launching a special feature in the Arts & Culture app (“Arts and Culture”).

Google's AI can change photos to match the style of famous artists in the Arts & Culture app

The feature is called Art Transfer and uses machine learning techniques to change photos to suit the style of different authors. The technology is based on an algorithmic model created by Google AI: after the user takes a photo and selects a style, Art Transfer does not just mix one with the other, but seeks to algorithmically recreate the photo using the selected art style.

It is possible to imitate such famous artists as Frida Kahlo, Keith Haring and Katsushika Hokusai. Google is particularly proud that all AI processing is done on the user's phone, rather than being sent to the cloud to be processed on the server side. This is good news for those who are concerned about privacy. In addition, this means that mobile traffic will not be consumed.

Of course, this isn't the first time AI has been used to filter photos like this. A few years ago, the domestic application Prisma, which also used artificial intelligence to apply artistic filters in one style or another, gained great popularity. By the way, the result of the Prisma algorithms seemed to be much more impressive than in the Arts and Culture application from Google.
