IKEA has created robotic furniture for small apartments

IKEA is launching a robotic furniture system called Rognan, developed in collaboration with American furniture startup Ori Living.

The system is a large container, which is located in a small room and allows you to divide it into two living areas. The container contains a bed, a desk and a sofa, which can be pulled out if necessary.

The novelty is intended for residents of cities who want to make the most of the available living space. It is no coincidence that the first countries where Rognan sales will begin will be Hong Kong and Japan, whose residents are experiencing housing problems.

IKEA claims that Rognan saves 8 m2 of living space. This may not seem like much, but if you live in a tiny apartment, this amount of living space saved can hardly be overestimated.

The Rognan system is built on the Ori robotic platform and is compatible with Ikea's IKEA PLATSA modular storage system, as well as IKEA's TRΓ…DFRI smart lighting system.

β€œInstead of making furniture smaller, we transform it into the function you need at the moment,” said IKEA product designer Seana Strawn. When you sleep, you don't need a sofa. When you use a wardrobe, you don't need a bed."

The implementation of the IKEA Rognan system will begin next year, its price is still unknown.
