IKEA made carpet shoppers take a sincerity test

In April this year, IKEA presented a limited collection of designer carpets called Art Event 2019. The main feature of the collection is that the sketches of the carpets were created by famous designers, including art director of the Louis Vuitton men's line Virgil Abloh, avant-garde Craig Green and others. Each item included in the new IKEA collection was valued at $500.

IKEA made carpet shoppers take a sincerity test

An unusual decision was made by a furniture manufacturer to fight dealers. The Swedish company, together with the Ogilvy Social Lab agency, has developed a special scanner called the (He)art Scanner. A peculiar device is designed to read human brain impulses and heartbeats. The scanner was used by the company to assess how much a customer likes the item they plan to buy.

After the buyer put on the scanner, he was escorted to a dark room where he could examine different carpets. In the case when the device recorded that the client liked a certain carpet model, the buyer could purchase it. If the level of recorded signals was not high enough, then the client was asked to move on to viewing the following options.

As a result of the campaign, IKEA released a short video in which it said that the entire collection of carpets was sold out in Belgium in just a week. It is noteworthy that none of the representatives of the Art Event 2019 collection was listed on eBay, unlike the goods that were sold in other countries.
