The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) unveiled on Wednesday at an event in Bangalore the humanoid robot Vyommitra, which it plans to send into space as part of the Gaganyaan mission.
The Vyommitra robot (viom means space, mitra means deity), made in the form of a woman, is expected to go into space on an unmanned spacecraft later this year. ISRO plans to conduct several test flights of unmanned vehicles before the launch of a manned spacecraft in 2022.
At the presentation, the robot greeted those present with the words: "Hi, I'm Vyommitra, the first half-humanoid prototype."
βThe robot is called half-humanoid because it has no legs. It can only bend sideways and forward. The robot will conduct certain experiments and will always be in touch with the ISRO command center, βsaid Sam Dayal, an Indian space agency specialist.
