E Ink information displays to appear at bus stops in Boston

Three years ago, the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) launched a joint project with E Ink to install information panels on E Ink displays at bus and tram stops. Now the partners are finishing the second phase of the experiment, according to which the E Ink panels will appear 28 more stops.

The second phase of the $1,5 million project will be completed in June this year. E Ink panels do not require constant power to display an image, so their placement is convenient at bus stops where there is no constant power source and there are difficulties with laying telecommunications. E Ink dashboards are powered by solar cells and updated over mobile networks.

The MBTA management emphasizes that the deployment of information boards is especially important in a pandemic, when transport began to run much less frequently. Passengers will always be able to see up-to-date information on traffic intervals on the panel, and the principle of operation of E Ink displays, which are perfectly readable in bright daylight, makes the perception of information as comfortable as possible.

E Ink is especially excited to expand its partnership with Boston management. In these places are the roots of E Ink. Before the Taiwanese company Prime View International (PVI) bought an American developer and manufacturer of perspective displays in the 2008 crisis, E Ink was headquartered across the river from Boston in the city of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
