According to unofficial information, Apple has been working on a prototype of a foldable iPhone for some time, which should compete with similar devices manufactured by Samsung. Authoritative insider Jon Prosser claims that the device will receive two separate displays connected by a hinge, and not one flexible display, like most modern smartphones of this type.
Prosser claims that the foldable iPhone will have the same rounded side edges as the iPhone 11. In addition, the device will not have the βbangsβ already familiar to the iPhone, but the external display will have a tiny cutout that will fit the face recognition system TrueDepth, which Face ID relies on.
Even though the device will get two separate displays, Prosser claims that the smartphone's displays give the impression of a single panel. Thus, the foldable iPhone is more similar in design to devices such as the Microsoft Surface Neo and Surface Duo than the Samsung Galaxy Fold, with future versions of which it is likely to compete.
It is not yet known when Apple will release a foldable iPhone to the market. Rumors about its development have been circulating since 2016. In March of this year, the company patented a device with two displays connected by a hinge, which is very similar to what Prosser described. And although there have been more and more details about the device lately, Apple is unlikely to introduce it in the near future.
