Intel
Intel already has a lot of acquisitions for the implementation of machine vision, machine learning and video stream processing. A new acquisition in this area was the acquisition of the British company Omnitek. It is interesting to note that Omnitek has been developing video cores and video DSPs for many years for Intel's direct competitor (Altera) Xilinx. Omnitek is now part of the Intel Programmable Solutions Group. At the same time, the Omnitek team of 40 engineers will continue to be based in England in its former office. The company does not report the amount of the transaction, which, in general, is in its practice.
Omnitek has over 220 IP cores that could greatly expand Intel's FPGA offering. The manufacturer and its partners have the opportunity to create programmable solutions to optimize the load over a wide range. This is the acceleration of audiovisual streams, integration into projecting installations, medical, military and other devices, including video surveillance and broadcasting. Another important part of Omnitek's line of business is the company's development of DSP cores for accelerating machine learning (neural networks) and for decision-making AI. It can be expected that Intel made the right and timely acquisition.
