Intel Unveils 8th Gen Intel Core vPro Mobile Processors

One of the most significant parts of Intel's product portfolio that is rarely mentioned is the vPro series. It consists of a special combination of processors and chipsets that offers Intel commercial customers additional stability, administration, and hardware security capabilities. The company has now unveiled its latest mobile vPro processors, which will be part of the 8th Gen Intel Core family.

We are talking about two new processors: one of them belongs to the Core i7 class, and the other to the Core i5. Both chips are quad-core and multi-threaded, have a power consumption of 15 watts, but differ in frequency and cache size. DDR4-2400 and LPDDR3-2133 memory supported, depending on power and performance requirements.

The processors look very similar to non-vPro counterparts of the Whiskey Lake generation. vPro benefits include additional BIOS security, remote corporate administration (for security, updates, software downloads), and Wi-Fi 6 support for vendors using the new Intel AX200 controller. In addition, the presence of only mid-range and high-end chips is intended to provide better battery life, portability and convenience. One of Intel's key marketing goals for the new vPro family is a focus on out-of-office work.

Intel is also promoting its Optane H10 drives for these solutions, combining an NVMe SATA SSD with a small amount of Optane cache for the best speed-to-value ratio. It also relies on access to the Thunderbolt interface via the Type-C connector, which significantly increases the connectivity of peripherals.

Intel said its main OEM partners Lenovo, Dell, HP and Panasonic already prepared laptops for potential customers and will present them in the near future. The annual Computex show is just a few weeks away, so we're sure to see some devices there.
