Intel has officially confirmed that the first mainstream 10nm mobile processors, codenamed Ice Lake, will indeed start shipping as early as June, with Ice Lake-based devices going on sale during the Christmas season. The company promises that the new mobile platform, using these advanced processors, will offer about 3 times faster wireless speeds, 2 times faster video transcoding speeds, 2 times faster integrated graphics speeds, and 2,5 times faster speed than the previous platform. .3–XNUMX times when solving artificial intelligence problems.

One of the most important points for the company to apply 10nm technology will be the release of the next generation of processors for personal computers - Tiger Lake. Intel plans to introduce processors under this code name during the first half of 2020. And judging by the available data, they will replace Ice Lake in the mobile segment: Intel plans to talk about energy-efficient modifications of classes U and Y with four computing cores.

According to Gregory Bryant, head of Intel's client products team, Tiger Lake processors will have a new core architecture and Intel Xe (Gen12) class graphics that will allow them to work with 8K monitors as well. Although it was not specifically mentioned, Tiger Lake appears to be hosting the Willow Cove microarchitecture, a further development of the Sunny Cove microarchitecture implemented in Ice Lake.

Bryant confirmed that Intel already has working samples of Tiger Lake processors that can run the Windows operating system and the Chrome browser, which suggests that the development process is at one of the final stages.

Unfortunately, no technical details about Tiger Lake have been made public, but Intel did not hesitate to bring up some performance data for these processors. For example, Tiger Lake, which has 96 graphics processing units, promises four times the graphics speed compared to today's Whiskey Lake processors. As for computing performance, the comparison is made with Amber Lake processors, which future quad-core Tiger Lake processors promise to outperform twice with the same TDP, reduced to 9W. However, all this superiority is ensured primarily by the extensive increase in the number of cores and computing units, the path to which was opened by 10-nm technology.

Also among the advantages of Tiger Lake recorded a fourfold advantage in video encoding speed and a 2,5-3 times superiority compared to Whiskey Lake in the performance of solving artificial intelligence problems.
