Intel Twin River - a prototype of a two-screen laptop in a textile case

An unusual prototype of the Intel Honeycomb Glacier gaming laptop was not the only figment of the fervent imagination of engineers from the laboratories of Santa Clara. Another concept of the Twin River laptop was shown, in the form of a fold-out book featuring two 12,3-inch screens with a resolution of 1920 Γ— 1280 and a textile finish in a combination of polyester, polyamide and lycra.

Has Intel really decided to bring to mind the unsuccessful Microsoft Courier concept? As in the Honeycomb Glacier, a hinge draws attention to itself, which allows not only to unfold the device, but also fixes both doors at the right angle, which is of fundamental importance for using the Twin River as a laptop. Recently published last year's Intel patent on the hinge systems of dual-screen laptops, allowing you to turn the doors 360 Β° to use the device as a tablet. With regard to Twin River, this point remains unclear. By the way, the camera is neatly placed on its back side.

Despite the absence of a metal case and, on the contrary, the use of heat-accumulating materials, the company managed to integrate a 4-core 15-Watt Intel U processor. It's all about the cooling system based on a very thin vapor chamber and the unique design of the motherboard, where the processor has a diagonal position for maximum approximation to power schemes.

Intel did not allow reporters to capture the internal design it developed, fearing that it would be misused by competitors, but showed a lot of textile materials that were tested in its laboratory to ascertain the best performance and tactile sensations of the computer's outer cover.

In general, the development does not look outstanding: Microsoft Surface laptops with fabric trim have already entered the market, and dual-screen solutions are not new either. However, research in the field of case materials and device formats promises the emergence of more diversity in the world of computers. This direction can be especially in demand in such still experimental solutions, such as, for example, a laptop-tablet with a flexible screen. Lenovo ThinkPad X1.
