iPhone XR continues to dominate US smartphone market

According to the latest figures from market research firm CIRP, the iPhone XR continues to dominate the U.S. smartphone market and became the top-selling model in the second quarter. Previously, Kantar data also showed that the iPhone XR is the best-selling smartphone in the UK.

In other iPhone models, the Cupertino company sells more iPhone XS Max than the base iPhone XS. Obviously, those who want to get a flagship iPhone like the option with a larger display, while among fans of more compact smartphones, they choose the rather cheaper iPhone XR.

However, the success of the iPhone XR is not a good thing for Apple. The interest of buyers in this model affects the average cost of sold devices (ASP). CIRP's U.S. Smartphone Sales Report for the latest quarter says the proportion of iPhone users who pay for more storage increased from 33% in the same period last year to 38%. This should push the average price up past $800, but the iPhone XR's lower price more than makes up for that.

In turn, Apple's services revenue continues to grow. CIRP reported that almost half of iPhone buyers in the US have paid for iCloud capacity expansion, and Apple Music subscriptions have also been strong. Among US iPhone users this quarter, 48% used paid iCloud storage, 21% used iPhone music streaming services, and 13% used traditional iTunes music services.

But due to fierce competition from cellular operators, retailers and other warranty providers, sales of AppleCare warranty service are small.
