September results: AMD processors rise in price and lose their adherents in Russia

AMD products continue to dominate the Russian market of desktop processors, but in recent months Intel has been systematically catching up with the competitor. Since May, when processors from the Comet Lake family hit the store shelves, AMD's share has been declining. In total, over the past four months, Intel has been able to win back 5,9 percentage points from its rival.

The growing interest of Russian buyers in Intel products continues against the backdrop of a change in the model range, and also due to the fact that AMD processors have noticeably increased in price in recent months, which is largely due to the weakening of the ruble. Be that as it may, in September, Intel's share in the desktop processor market reached 44,8%. And this is the best result of the "blue" since the beginning of this year - this is evidenced by another statistics collected by the price aggregator "Yandex Market”, which counts the transitions of service visitors to online stores for the purchase of a particular product.

At the same time, only AMD products continue to be among the most popular desktop processors on the Russian market. The top five most popular CPUs last month were the six-core Ryzen 5 3600, Ryzen 5 2600 and Ryzen 5 3600X, the eight-core Ryzen 7 3700X, and the 12-core Ryzen 9 3900X. It is curious that these five accounted for almost a third of all purchases of desktop processors. The most popular Intel processor, the Core i3-9100F, is only sixth in the list of user preferences.

The September processor top is in many ways interesting because multi-core processors have returned to it again. The month before last, the quad-core Ryzen 3 3300X and Ryzen 3 3200G held positions in the top five most popular offers in Russia, but with the start of the school year, users began to prefer the more expensive Ryzen 7 3700X and even Ryzen 9 3900X. On the whole, the rise in prices has so far had little effect on the structure of consumer preferences. The leaders of the rating, Ryzen 5 3600 and Ryzen 5 2600, rose in price by 11-13% in September, but their market share shrank by only 2-3%, which did not lead to any radical reshuffling in the top.

However, price trends threaten to further reduce the popularity of AMD processors, as they gradually lose their important trump card - favorable prices. In addition to the Ryzen 5 3600 and Ryzen 5 2600, many other siblings also went up significantly in September, in particular, the Ryzen 5 3500X, Ryzen 5 3400G, Ryzen 3 3300X and Ryzen 3 3200G. At the same time, Intel processors, especially those related to the fresh generation of Comet Lake, on the contrary, are only becoming cheaper. The Core i9-10900K, Core i9-9900K, Core i7-10700K, Core i5-10600K, and Core i3-10100 are at the forefront of this process, with average September prices 2-3% below August.

It's no surprise that LGA 1200 processors end up winning over more and more buyers. If in August they accounted for 10,8% of all purchases, then in September, 15,3% of buyers stopped choosing Comet Lake. The most popular processor among them in September was the six-core Core i5-10400F, for which 2,9% of Yandex.Market visitors were ready to vote in rubles.
