The hashrate of the bitcoin network has seriously decreased on September 30th. It turned out that this was due to a major fire at one of the mining farms, as a result of which equipment worth about $10 million was destroyed.

Mining farm fire causes bitcoin hashrate to drop

According to one of the first bitcoin miners Marshall Long (Marshall Long), a major fire occurred on Monday in a mining center owned by Innosilicon. Despite the fact that there is not much data regarding the incident, a video appeared on the Internet demonstrating the operation of cryptocurrency mining equipment even during a fire. According to one of the founders of Primitive Ventures, the total value of the equipment damaged by the fire is $10 million.

Official representatives of Innosilicon have not yet made any statements regarding this incident. However, people who follow the state of the cryptocurrency market immediately associated the fire on the mining farm with a decline in the bitcoin hash rate. It is worth noting that the hash rate estimate only gives a limited idea of the current state of bitcoin. Just a few days ago, the hash rate plummeted by about 40% in one day, but later fully recovered.

Some time ago, the Cointelegraph portal reported that due to the rainy season in the Chinese province of Sichuan, located in the northwest of the country, on August 20 of this year, at least one large mining farm engaged in bitcoin mining was destroyed.
