Changes in the Board of Directors of the Open Source Fund

Following the previously proposed management change process for the Open Source Fund, Geoffrey Knauth, the president of the Fund, announced the inclusion of a new voting member on the board who will represent staff opinions and was elected by the regular employees of the Open Source Fund. System administrator Ian Kelling has joined the board.

At the same time, it was announced that attorney Kat Walsh is leaving the board of the Open Source Fund. Kat played a role in the creation of the Creative Commons 4.0 license, served on the board of trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation, and was part of the governing board of the Xiph.org Foundation. Kat noted that her departure should not be seen as a rejection of free software ideas. This decision came after a long and difficult realization that the role she played in the organization is no longer the best way to promote open source ideas in the world. Kat believes that the Open Source Fund needs changes to address existing issues, but she is not the person who could implement those changes.

Additionally, it is noteworthy that the number of signatories supporting Stallman significantly exceeded those opposing him — Stallman received 3,693 signatures, while the opposition garnered 2,811.
