What salaries were offered by employers to IT specialists in the second half of 2019

We continue to deepen our knowledge of the salary market in Russia. The end of 2019 is approaching, which means it's time for an annual report on what salaries employers offered in their vacancies on My Circle in the past year. As in Last year, in this report we will compare salaries offered by employers with salaries from salary calculatorwhere we receive data directly from experts. Let's compare salaries for the main IT specialties and programming languages - separately for Moscow, St. Petersburg and other regions.

Methodological explanation

When calculating salaries offered by employers, we use data from vacancies posted on My Circle for the last six months, from May to October 2019 inclusive. Usually, in vacancies, the salary is indicated in the form of a range β€œfrom and to”. We took all the salaries β€œfrom”, calculated the median value and called it the β€œlower salary limit”, and took all the salaries β€œto”, also calculated the median value and called it the β€œupper salary limit”. Only those based on 20 or more vacancies were accepted as reliable data.

Comparison of salaries by major specialties

In Moscow the highest salaries are offered in mobile and desktop development. We saw the same picture last year.

For most specialties, the current median salary of specialists falls in the range between the lower and upper limits of salaries offered by employers, which means that the supply of work is approximately equal to the demand for it.

The exception is desktop development and support, where employers offer a salary that is higher than the current one, which means there is an increased demand for such specialists, it is now easier for such specialists to find a higher paying job.

In management and design, the median salary of specialists is equal to the upper limit of the range of salaries in vacancies, that is, the demand for such specialists is reduced, it is now more difficult to find a better-paid job.

In marketing, the median salary of specialists is above the upper limit of salaries offered by employers, and this situation has continued for the second year in a row.
