The project was called "Odyssey". It involves the operation of cars without a driver in the cabin. For now we are talking about logistics operations on the roads in the perimeter of the KAMAZ industrial site.

The robotic vehicle is based on the KAMAZ-4308 model with a diesel engine. Video cameras, radars, lidars and sonars are responsible for the operation of the autopilot system. It is stated that the navigation error does not exceed 3–5 cm.

The on-board computer supports several types of wireless communications. These are Wi-Fi and 4G, as well as a VHF connection in case other channels are jammed.

“The launch of the project is a significant event not only for the Russian automotive industry, but also for the industry as a whole. This could be the first step towards robotization of industrial equipment, including those operating in extreme conditions - for example, in mines, quarries and the Far North,” notes Sergei Chemezov, General Director of the Rostec State Corporation, Chairman of the Board of Directors of KAMAZ PJSC.

In the future, unmanned vehicles based on KAMAZ will be able to be used in any industry that requires shuttle transportation along given routes.
