Valve's Artifact card game will be relaunched

Collectible card game Artifact, Valve's offshoot of Dota 2, failed to get people's attention, and the company had to abandon its plans to actively support the project. However, this does not mean that the game is dead: according to Edge magazine sources, the developers are working on the successor to the original game, and the changes are so huge that inside Valve it is called Artifact 2.

Valve CEO Gabe Newell called Artifact an interesting failure, as the company considered the game to be a strong product. He also told the magazine that the team had analyzed what exactly people didn't like about the product and were going to fix all the problems:

“We did an experiment, got a negative result, and now we need to see if we got anything out of it, so let's try again. This is what the Artifact team is doing and this is what they are preparing to release. We start from the reaction to the project in order to understand what is wrong with the product? How did we get into this situation? Let's fix the flaws and try again."

Mr. Newell did not say when the update will be released, and did not specify whether it will be a full-fledged sequel or something else. However, he pointed out that the company needed to do a massive restart to justify the game's existence.

Valve also posted an ad on Steam, which says the company will reveal more details after the March 26 release of the ambitious VR action movie Half Life: Alyx. The ad includes the following lines: “First of all, we would like to thank you for all the tweets, emails and posts. The continued interest in Artifact is encouraging and we sincerely appreciate all the feedback! You may notice some changes soon as we start testing our systems and infrastructure. Tests should not affect the game itself, but we still decided to warn you.
