On December 12, a new version of the KDE project suite of applications was released!
First, a couple of phrases about the expansion of KDE applications to other distribution platforms. So, in the Microsoft Store application store appeared Okular, Kate, kstars, Wedge и FileLight. And the quantity Snap packages almost reached a hundred!
Well, now let's talk about the most noticeable changes in some KDE applications.
Dolphin File Manager
- The built-in search interface has been redesigned - it has become more compact.
- Also in the new interface, unavailable search options are displayed as inactive, and pressing the search button again collapses it.
- When you press and hold the “Back” and “Forward” buttons, a list with directory history appears.
- Attempting to unmount a partition in use displays a warning with the name "holding" section of programs.
- In the Places panel, the poorly working “Recently Saved” item has been replaced with the “Recent Folders” and “Recent Files” items.
- Redesigned the appearance of the toolbar in favor of greater brevity.
- The behavior when clicking on an executable file can be selected from 3 options: “run”, “open in application”, “always ask”.
- Improved Git integration - in particular, displaying file statuses in large repositories.
- Opening network resources has been accelerated by saving display settings locally.
- Fixed display of photographing date in JPEG metadata.
- Information about the file under the cursor no longer disappears from the status bar after a second.
- The file information panel now correctly shows truncated dates, including for metadata.
- She also learned how to show animation in thumbnails for gif, webp and mng.
- By clicking on the thumbnail of an audio or video file in the information panel, you can play it, and a pause button appears on the thumbnail.
- Fixed focus behavior issues in keyboard navigation.
- The context and tool menus have been redesigned to be more logical and consistent with each other.
- There is now an option to reset icon scaling settings to the default value.
- When sorting by tags, files and folders with tags are displayed first.
- Fixed bugs when grouping files with Cyrillic names.
- Fully colored icons in the application settings window.
Gwenview Image Viewer
- Loading files from potentially slow network resources has been accelerated.
- Fixed problems when importing photos with renaming using a template with slashes.
- Also, when importing, the necessary directories are now created automatically.
- Cropping images to the edge while maintaining aspect ratio no longer increases the crop area by 1 pixel.
- A single interface for setting the quality of saved JPEGs for Gwenview and Spectacle.
- Fully colored icons in the application settings window.
Console terminal emulator
- No longer leaves behind hundreds or thousands of temporary files in the /tmp directory.
- Fixed an issue with focus moving to the embedded terminal after closing and reopening it.
- The tabs show activity again.
- New tabs when splitting a window (Split View) can start from the address of the current tab.
- Also fixed dragging between sections on Wayland.
- The scrollbar began to work normally when running the application outside the KDE environment.
- The confirmation dialog for closing multiple tabs can be disabled permanently.
- The option to use a random color for the background is based on the text color for better contrast.
- Fixed rendering glitches for embedded terminals on 2 or more HiDPI screens.
- Fixed problems with session recovery.
- Duplicate bookmarks are no longer created.
Okular Document Viewer
- Scrolling through documents has become inert and smooth.
- Settings for zoom, display mode and sidebar are remembered for each file separately.
- Using the context menu, you can find repetitions of the selected text fragment in the current document.
- Support for the CB7 comic format has been implemented (Dolphin has also learned how to create thumbnails for these files).
- When drawing with a stylus in presentation mode, the mouse cursor turns into a crosshair in response to the stylus moving closer to the screen.
- Unnecessary tooltips and dialogs when the stylus approaches the screen have also been removed.
- The note-taking dialog has been improved: warnings about experimental options are displayed, and thumbnails of attached images are displayed.
Text editor Kate
- Support returned plugin "External tools" (External Tools) for creating your own text and file processing scripts.
- Using External Tools, you can create a new button bar with fully customizable actions.
- Fixed sorting issues in the Symbol Browser.
- The module for searching and replacing using regular expressions has been added built-in reminder.
- Initial support for Frotran and D languages for the Language Server Protocol.
- Fixed a crash when pressing the Esc key reassigned to close the application.
- When you exit the settings window with unactivated changes, you are prompted to activate or cancel them.
Other changes
- The utility for working with Kamoso cameras received new interface in Kirigami style.
- Screenshot software Spectacle has learned to save screenshots immediately after they are taken.

- And selecting individual areas of the screen for a photo has become much easier and more visual.
- Updating a collection in Elisa Music Player no longer produces duplicate entries.
- Also in Elisa, the problem with repeating one selected song has been fixed.
- Finally, support for Internet radio has been added.
- The Kdenlive video editor has dramatically reduced RAM consumption thanks to a number of measures.
- It also received many bug fixes and interface improvements.
- Fixes for HiDPI in Kate, Yakuake, Ark, Elisa and several other applications.
