Sources tell Variety that Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett is in talks to play Lilith in the film adaptation of the Borderlands video game. The film is being produced by Lionsgate studio.
The film adaptation is directed by Eli Roth and produced by Avi and Ari Arad along with Eric Feig. Craig Mazin, who won an Emmy for writing Chernobyl, is writing the script.
Released in 2009, Borderlands is a first-person shooter role-playing game created by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games. The game takes place on the outskirts of the science fiction universe - the planet Pandora, which was abandoned by a megacorporation before the events of the main plot began. In total, more than 57 million copies of games in the series were purchased. The latest installment in the franchise , released in September 2019.
Lilith is one of the main characters of the franchise. Players could also take on her role in the first Borderlands. She is a Siren with incredible superhuman abilities.
The film is executive produced by Randy Pitchford, executive producer of the Borderlands video game franchise and founder of Gearbox Software, and Strauss Zelnick, chairman and CEO of Take-Two Interactive.
