KIA Plan S: development of electric vehicles and new mobility services

KIA Motors has revealed the details of Plan S medium and long-term strategy, which provides for strengthening the company's position in the global automotive market and developing new directions.

KIA Plan S: development of electric vehicles and new mobility services

The Plan S initiative sees KIA move from a vehicle-focused business to a business centered around electric vehicles and personalized mobility solutions.

So, next year it is planned to present a model designed exclusively for the installation of an electric power plant. We are talking about a crossover designed to blur the lines between sports models and SUVs. The power reserve on one recharge of the battery pack will exceed 500 km. At the same time, fast charging from a special station will take no more than 20 minutes.

By 2025, the KIA lineup will include 11 electric vehicles. By this time, the company expects to occupy 6,6% of the global electric car market.

In addition, it is reported that by the middle of the next decade, a quarter (25%) of the brand's total sales will come from models with a hybrid or all-electric powertrain.

KIA Plan S: development of electric vehicles and new mobility services

In Korea, North America, Europe and other developed markets, which have the most stringent requirements for environmentally friendly vehicles, KIA will focus specifically on the development of electric vehicles. By 2025, sales of electric cars in these regions should reach approximately 20% of the brand's total vehicle shipments.

In emerging markets, KIA will focus on expanding sales of combustion engine vehicles, while tailoring the most appropriate package of electric vehicle offerings for each market.

The share of SUVs and crossovers, currently accounting for about 50% of KIA's total sales, should increase to 2022% by 60 (excluding the Chinese market).

As part of the Plan S initiative, KIA is investing $25 billion in product development and deployment of new mobility services.
