The latest report from IPlytics shows that Chinese companies have taken the lead in the 5G patent race. Huawei holds the first place in terms of the number of issued patents.

China-based developers lead the list of largest Standards Essential Patents (SEP) 5G patent filings in April 2019. The share of patent applications by Chinese companies is 34% of the total. Huawei, a telecommunications company, tops the list with 15% of patents.

5G SEPs are important patents that developers will use when implementing standardized solutions in the process of building fifth generation communication networks. In the top ten companies that have issued the largest number of patents in this area, there are three Chinese manufacturers at once. In addition to Huawei, which occupies the first line of the list, ZTE Corp. has a large number of patents. (fifth place) and China Academy of Telecommunication Technology (9th place).

It is worth noting that, unlike previous generations of cellular communication technologies, the 5G standard will have a significant impact on many industry areas, stimulating the emergence of new products, services and services.  

The report says that one of the first industries to feel the impact of 5G will be the automotive industry. It is also noted that due to the fact that 5G technologies combine different industries, the number of patent applications related to fifth generation communication networks has increased dramatically around the world, reaching 60 by the end of April.
