The Chinese created a system on a 32-core AMD EPYC and GeForce RTX 2070 with passive cooling

The Chinese company Turemetal, which specializes in creating cases for fanless PCs, has published photos of a passively cooled computer that is built on an AMD EPYC processor and uses an NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics card. This system was created by special order, so it uses some non-standard components.

The demonstrated system is based on the 32-core AMD EPYC 7551 server processor, for which a TDP of 180 W is declared, and it is accompanied by a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 graphics card with a heat dissipation of 175 W. In total, this gives a considerable 355 watts. The system is built on a Supermicro ATX motherboard and is packaged in a Turemetal UP10 case, which is also sold separately.

By itself, this case, according to the manufacturer, supports processors with heat dissipation up to 140 W and video cards with a TDP level of up to 160 W. But it seems that in reality the case has some margin, and it is quite capable of successfully coping with more powerful components.

Turemetal posted a video on its YouTube channel, according to which the described system passed the FurMark stress test for 22 hours with a full load on the CPU and GPU, during which there was not a single failure and no frequency reset from overheating (throttling) was observed. The GPU temperature reached 88Β°C and the CPU reached 76Β°C. The ambient temperature was 24 Β°C.

Since the Turemetal UP10 case is not designed to install EPYC processors, the engineers had to create a massive copper base-radiator specifically for this project to install on the processor, to which heat pipes were already connected from the case. This base is made of a solid copper bar and weighs almost 2,5 kg.

Immediately, we note that a thick aluminum plate was used to cool the video card, which was responsible for removing heat not only from the GPU, but also from memory chips and power elements of the power subsystem. So far, some external power supply is used to power the system, but in the end it will be replaced with an internal fanless one.
