Last year, Frogwares studio released a detective adventure . The game tells a Lovecraftian story about dark cosmic secrets in a small town. And it looks like it was a hit for the studio.
In the past, Frogwares has created games based on Sherlock Holmes. The Sinking City takes a lot from there, but also has its own twist. The project was also helped by the story’s involvement in one of the most popular topics among science fiction fans, the cosmic universe of Howard Lovecraft.
In an interview with Wccftech, Frogwares communications manager Sergey Oganesyan shared that The Sinking City was successful for the studio. He can't give exact numbers, but the game sold significantly better than the Sherlock Holmes series. Additionally, the studio's deal with Epic Games has proven to be beneficial.
“Okay, for those who don't know, we released The Sinking City on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch, and while we can't give exact numbers, I can say that the game was definitely a success for our studio. Sales are better than our previous Sherlock Holmes titles in the same time period and continue to grow,” he said. “I’m not sure I can disclose the contents of the commercial agreement [with Epic Games]. But, as we said earlier, we would not agree to the terms if they were not critical to our studio. This deal with Epic Games not only allowed our studio to continue making what we love to do - niche detective games - but also to prepare for the future. Will we see strong sales for The Sinking City on Steam? It’s up to the players to decide!”
Now the developers are creating the next game. Oganesyan does not reveal whether it will be a continuation of The Sinking City or the next project in the Sherlock Holmes series, or maybe something new.
“I can confirm that we are working on something, but we are not ready to reveal what it is. What I can tell you is that fans know us best for our detective games, and the new game will fit the Frogwares profile - a story-driven detective adventure with minimal hand-holding,” said Sergey Oganesyan. “But whether it will be Sherlock, The Sinking City 2 or a completely new game, I, unfortunately, cannot say yet.”
