Data released by South Korea's Ministry of Science and Information and Communications Technology suggests that the popularity of 5G networks in the country is growing rapidly.

The first commercial networks of the fifth generation earned in South Korea in early April this year. These services provide data transfer rates of several gigabits per second.

It is reported that as of the end of June, South Korean mobile operators served a total of 1,34 million subscribers. For comparison: in May, this figure was 0,79 million. Thus, in just a month, the number of 5G users jumped by 70%.

Since the launch of commercial 5G services in South Korea, it has taken 69 days to break the milestone of 1 million subscribers. In the case of 4G networks, it took 80 days.

Many users who have become subscribers to 5G networks say that they are unlikely to want to return to 4G networks of their own free will. 5G traffic consumption is already on average 2,6 times higher compared to 4G/LTE networks.

It is also noted that by the end of this year, the number of South Korean users of fifth generation networks may reach 4 million or even 5 million.
