The project was implemented by the telecommunications company Swisscom together with Qualcomm Technologies. The partners were OPPO, LG Electronics, Askey and WNC.

It is reported that all subscriber equipment currently available for use in the Swisscom 5G network is built using Qualcomm hardware components. These are, in particular, the Snapdragon 855 processor and the Snapdragon X50 5G modem. The latter provides the ability to transfer data at speeds up to several gigabits per second.

Swisscom customers, for example, will be able to use the LG V50 ThinQ 5G smartphone, which was officially presented at MWC 2019, to work in the fifth generation network. You can learn more about this device in our material.

Note that in Russia, large-scale deployment of fifth-generation mobile networks will begin no earlier than 2021. One of the problems is the lack of frequency resource. Telecom operators are counting on the 3,4-3,8 GHz band, which is now used by the military, space structures, etc. However, the Ministry of Defense refused to give these frequencies to telecommunications companies.
