Canonical went self-sustaining

In his address dedicated to the release Ubuntu 20.04, Mark Shuttleworth рассказал that Canonical has long ceased to depend on his personal financial contributions and has become self-sufficient. According to Shuttleworth, if anything were to happen to him tomorrow, the Ubuntu project would continue to exist in the capable hands of the current Canonical team and the community.

Since Canonical is a private company, details of its financial position are not disclosed; only the financial report filed with the UK Companies House and reflecting data for 2018 is available from public information. The report shows gross revenue of $83 million and profit of $10 million. Shuttleworth has not given up on going public and taking Canonical public, but that won't happen this year.
